The Alexander Cree Foundation has two main components, an annual Half Birthday charity event, and Beautiful Rising Sun to benefit Angelman Syndrome.
Alexander Cree's Half Birthday Charity Event:
This tradition began when Alexanders mother, Jasmine wanted to celebrate his six months/"halfty birthday". Jasmine, Lucas and Alexander were moving from NYC to Miami and thought this would be a great way to say farewell to their NYC friends, as well as celebrate their sweet baby boy turning six months old. The event was beautiful on the rooftop deck of their Upper East Side NYC apartment filled with amazing weather and great energy from friends and family. A few people brought gifts for Alexander that were certainly appreciated, but his parents felt like it wasn't necessary because his actual birthday is in December. Jasmine came up with the idea of continuing the annual half birthday celebration but to take the focus off of Alexander and to put it towards helping those in need and teaching him the importance of giving back.
Beautiful Rising Sun - to benefit Angelman Syndrome:
Alexander Cree is a full-of-light three year old little boy who was diagnosed with a severe, rare neurogentic disorder called Angelman Syndrome ("AS") in January 2015, just one month after his second birthday. AS is a rare neurogenetic disorder that impacts one in every 15,000 live births. Every minute of everyday is hard work for Alexander due to the many challenges he faces.
Fortunately, there is an impressive and promising level of research being conducted on AS that gives our family, and many others, so much hope. Groups of amazing researchers have succeeded in curing AS in mice and are making significant progress toward clinical trials for AS treatmeants. With your help, we believe we can accelerate these developments and make effective treatments, or even a cure for AS, a reality.
